Gala Ball 2011
Saturday 8 October 2011
Reece High School, Devonport.
Down Syndrome Tasmania would like to sincerely
thank all our sponsors and supporters who once again so generously
supported our fourth WHK BrightStars Gala Ball held in Devonport recently.
We
were overwhelmed by the community’s enthusiasm and support, helping to
raise awareness of Down syndrome and what can be done to provide
opportunities for people with Down syndrome to achieve their full
potential.
Over 270 guests supported the event to raise
awareness and funds to support people with Down syndrome. This event was
not only for people with Down syndrome but for those that have a passion
to ensure that people with Down syndrome and their families have every
opportunity to reach their full potential.
Just under $50,000 was raised at the event which was far beyond the dreams of the WHK BrightStars Gala committee. Guests were entertained by Impersonator Nathy Gaffney, who as Dolly Parton led the crowd through an evening of fun and laughter.
BrightStars North West, DST’s first dance troupe,
also performed, filling the room with both tears and admiration as Ali
Jarman led the dancers through 2 scheduled dances
and then another as the crowd demanded an encore. Guests also supported a
public and silent auction and handed over thousands of dollars for
sporting memorabilia, local art and other items provided by our generous
community - it was unbelievable.
Basil The Rat had the guests dancing throughout
the evening and then past the scheduled close time, providing a perfect
way to end the night and work off some of the divine cuisine provided by
Adrian Singline of Food Design Catering.
Due to once again holding such a successful event and receiving fantastic feedback from the sponsors and guests, we have decided to hold the event again next year.
